SPATIAL TRANSLATIONS - JOURNEY OF FIVE SENSES

Spatial organisation is a key consideration for architects in architectural design. This project requires us to explore spatial typologies and poetics through simple design exercise. We are to propose ONE schemes of Spatial Translations themed 'Journey of the five senses'. We are required to design in the form of semi-open architecture by using two contrasting spatial types of choice.

project 1a   PRECEDENT STUDIES

Project 1a is to identify and analyse spatial order and spatial poetics through precedent studies.

project 1b   SPATIAL TRANSLATIONS

learning from the design strategies of precedent studies, we have to design to spatial translation scheme themes 'Journey of the five senses' based on the events of Batang Kali Massacre 1948. We have to extract the essence from the event and translate the narrative into spatial translations by using linear and concentric spatial typologies.

learning outcome

From this project, I have learned to identify and explain different spatial types in architecture and how they inform spatial use and experience. I knew the way of create tectonic expressions of different spatial typologies which impact on the uses nd experiential conditions of space, I learned how to generate design through conscious consideration of spatial typologies, section-plan relationship, contextual conditions and considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality and texture.
