GENIUS LOCI - INTERPRETIVE CENTRE
In Project 2B, We are to design an INTERPRETIVE CENTRE emphasizing a strong engagement and relationship to the site, spatial experiences and programmatic requirements. The interpretive centre will serve two purposes:
-
To provide a physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the culture/history/memory/essence of the site.

To provide accommodation to house and display relevant material and interpretive material for public access and information.

Tanjung Malim, Perak
Tanjung Malim is a slow-paced but peaceful town, people from different culture background live and work together.
Look back to the history, the 3 major races, Malay, Chinese & Indian came to this small town because of WAR & COLONIAL. Conflict between royal family (Klang War) and argument between 2 Chinese secret society (Larut War) bring Malay and Chinese into the town. In a meanwhile, Indian was brought in by British as migration labours in agriculture sector, specifically in rubber plantation. This is how a multiracial and multi-culture society formed. We should remember the history to always remind us about the lesson and keep it to the future generation.
DESIGN INTENTION
Interpreting the history of Tanjung Malim in terms of what made different races of people comes to the town and how they form the peaceful multiracial community. Remind the future generation about the history and learn lesson from it.

From this project, I have learned how to produce and design a small-scale community building within an open/suburban context, following analysis and exploration of the sire the user requirements, environmental sustainability, buildability and spatial poetics. Furthermore, we also learned basic building construction, materials and environmental considerations.
