project 1

DIAGRAMMING ARCHITECTURAL PRINCIPLES

In this project, We have to study precedent buildings and investigate how architecture and spaces are created from establishing design intentions and the making or architectural elements: architectonics - solid, planes, lines and frames. We have to transcribe and express those architectural idea into diagrams.

I was assigned to conduct background research of Philip Johnson and his building, Glass House. It's main principles that applied into this building is contrast, repetition and emphasis.

CONTRAST between solid and void as well as circular and rectangular.

EMPHASIS on the only cylinder structure that made by bricks which was allocated all along form floor to the ceiling.

REPETITION of rectangular make the forms of the Glass House.

learning outcome

From this project, I have explored architectural design through the abstraction of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional composition of space. I am able to analyse architectural work of selected architect and produce basic architectural compositions of solids, planes, lines and frames.
